Program that mute's volume?

Ok, so occasionaly when im listening to music on my laptop thru my headphones/earbuds, the cable gets pulled out of the inlet and then the music will start blaring thru the harman/kardon speakers, which isnt always pleasent for other people... So what free program can you suggest to me so that when the earbuds get unplugged, the volume will mute? Thanks
